SXY can turn "I want to watch that" into a real download, but it does so by connecting you to your own Jellyseerr server. This is the most important thing to understand before we start:
SXY does not download, store, or host your media. There is no media library on SXY, and nothing is copied to our servers. SXY simply talks to your Jellyseerr server (the same one you already run) using its API. Your Jellyseerr — and the download tools behind it, like Radarr, Sonarr, and your download client — do all the actual work. SXY just sends the request and shows you the status.
In other words: you bring the server, you keep the media, and SXY is the friendly front end that lets you request a title without leaving the site you're already browsing.
A quick note on naming: this feature supports Jellyseerr or now known as Seerr. Throughout this guide we'll say "Jellyseerr."
What this integration does (and doesn't do) What it does
- Links your SXY account to your Jellyseerr server.
- Lets you request movies and TV shows directly from their detail pages on SXY.
- Lets you pick exactly which seasons of a show to request.
- Tracks each request's status: Pending, Approved, Processing, Partially Available, Available, or Declined.
- Notifies you when your requested media becomes available.
- Lets a server owner invite other SXY users as members and set request limits.
What it does not do
- It does not host or stream media.
- It does not download anything to SXY's servers.
- It does not bypass your Jellyseerr setup — your existing users, permissions, quality profiles, and download stack still apply.
- SXY stores only what it needs to make this work: your server's URL, an encrypted API key, the list of members, and lightweight request records (the title, poster, requested seasons, and current status).
Before you start You'll need:
- A running Jellyseerr server that SXY can reach over the internet.
- Admin access to Jellyseerr, so you can copy its API key.
- An SXY account. You become the owner of the server you add, which unlocks member and quota management.
- If you're the person running the Jellyseerr server, you'll do all four steps below. If someone else owns it, they'll add the server and invite you as a member, then you can skip straight to "How to request a movie or TV show."
Step 1 — Add your Jellyseerr server
- Open Settings and select the Jellyseerr tab.
- Click Add Server.
Fill in:
- Server URL — the address of your Jellyseerr instance (for example, https://jellyseerr.example.com).
- API Key — found in Jellyseerr under Settings → General → API Key. Copy it and paste it here.
- Server Name (optional) — a friendly label, like "My Jellyseerr."
- Click Test & Add Server. SXY will verify the connection before saving.
- Your API key is stored encrypted and used only to talk to your server. It never leaves SXY's connection to your Jellyseerr.
Step 2 — Set your default request quotas (owner) Right on the Add Server form, you can set a Default Movie Quota and Default TV Quota. These are per-day limits applied to every member:
- Unlimited — members can request as much as they want.
- Disabled — members can't request that type at all.
- Custom — a set number of requests per day.
- These are SXY's own limits, on top of whatever limits or permissions Jellyseerr already enforces. They're counted over a rolling 24-hour window.
Step 3 — Invite members (owner) Want others on your SXY instance to make requests through your server? Invite them:
- In Settings → Jellyseerr, expand your server and open the Members tab.
- Click Invite Member and enter their SXY username.
- Optionally set a Movie quota override and TV quota override for that person. Choose Default to use the server default, Unlimited, Disabled, or a Custom number.
- Save. You can change a member's limits or remove them at any time.
- The owner is always a member of their own server. Members who aren't owners see your server in their settings and can request through it, but they can't change its configuration. Members only ever see the servers they belong to — a server you add is yours to share.
Step 4 — Connect the webhook for real-time updates This step is optional but strongly recommended. Without it, SXY still works — you'd just refresh or use the Sync button to pull the latest statuses. With it, SXY learns about changes the moment they happen.
- Expand your server in Settings → Jellyseerr. As the owner, you'll see a Webhook URL strip (it looks like https://your-sxy-domain/api/seerr/webhook?secret=...).
- Click Copy.
- In Jellyseerr, go to Settings → Notifications → Webhook and paste that URL into the webhook URL field. Leave the JSON payload as the default so all fields are sent.
- Save, and use Jellyseerr's Test button to confirm — SXY acknowledges test notifications and will respond successfully.
- Once connected, Jellyseerr tells SXY whenever a request is approved, declined, fails, or becomes available.
How to request a movie or TV show On any movie or TV detail page, you'll find a Request button (it appears once you're a member of at least one server).
Requesting a movie Click Request. If you belong to more than one server, SXY first asks which server to use; if you belong to only one, it proceeds with that one. The request is sent to your Jellyseerr and tracked on SXY from there.
Requesting a TV show — season by season TV is where this gets powerful. Clicking Request on a show opens a Select Seasons to Request dialog. Here you can:
-
See every season with its episode count and air year.
-
Pick individual seasons — request only Season 2, or Seasons 1 and 3, and leave the rest alone.
-
Use Select all or Select none to move fast.
-
See which seasons are already Available or already Requested — those can't be selected again, so you never duplicate a request.
-
A few useful details about how TV requests work here:
-
Specials aren't included. Season 0, and any season with no episodes, is filtered out of the picker.
-
Requestable seasons are pre-selected. When the dialog opens, SXY ticks every season you can still request — just untick what you don't want.
-
Partial availability is respected. If some seasons are already on your server, they show as Available and the rest stay requestable, so you can fill in the gaps.
-
Your selection is recorded. SXY remembers exactly which seasons you requested, which is what lets it show "Partially Available" for a show where only some seasons have arrived.
-
Click Request N Season(s) to send it. Your Jellyseerr then hands each season to your download stack, and SXY tracks progress.
Understanding request statuses Every request moves through a set of clear states, visible on the title page and in your requests list:
Status Meaning
- Request / Unknown Not requested yet — you can make a request.
- Pending Sent to Jellyseerr, waiting for approval.
- Approved Approved and being processed.
- Processing Actively being worked on by your download stack.
- Partially Available For TV only — some requested seasons have arrived.
- Available Ready to watch on your server.
- Declined The request was declined. You can request it again.
- The button also shows your remaining daily quota for movies or TV, and tells you why a request is unavailable if it is (for example, "Daily quota reached" or "Movie requests disabled").
Notifications when your media is ready This is the payoff. When Jellyseerr reports that a requested title has become available, SXY notifies everyone who requested it:
- An in-app notification — "Your request is ready," linking straight to the movie or show.
- A push notification — "Now available on SXY," if you've enabled browser push notifications.
- Only the people who requested that title are notified. Approval, decline, and failure updates are also reflected in your request list as they come in — either instantly via the webhook or on your next sync.
To make sure you get these, turn on push notifications in your SXY settings.
Managing your requests
- My Requests — open My Requests from the user menu to see every request you've made, across every server you belong to, with its current status.
- Filter and check — requests are grouped and filterable by status and by media type.
- Manual sync — hit the Sync statuses from Jellyseerr button to pull the latest state on demand (handy if you haven't set up the webhook, or just want to be sure).
- Profile requests tab — your public profile has a requests view, so you can see your request activity alongside the rest of your history.
- Owner view — as a server owner, expanding your server shows all requests made through it, so you can keep an eye on what your members are asking for.
- Troubleshooting
- "Server not found or not a member." The server may have been removed, or you were removed as a member. Ask the owner to re-invite you.
- Connection test fails. Confirm your Jellyseerr URL is reachable from the internet and that you copied the API key exactly from Settings → General → API Key.
- "Movie/TV requests disabled." The owner has set that quota to Disabled. Ask them to change it.
- "Daily quota reached." You've hit the per-day limit for that media type on that server. It resets on a rolling 24-hour window.
- Request says "already requested." You already have an active request for that title on that server. You can only re-request after a request is declined or fails.
- Status looks stale. Use Sync statuses from Jellyseerr, or ask the owner to confirm the webhook is configured in Jellyseerr.
- A season isn't selectable. It's either already available or already requested.
